Horace's cabin at Little Green Valley YMCA Camp in the San Bernardino Mtns, 1958. The camp was seriously beautiful. The kids in his cabin were older than I was, and I don't believe I knew any of them. My family is (and was at the time) atheist, however there weren't really any non-religious camps. My dad (i.e., Horace) went as a counselor so that I wouldn't be required to attend any kind of religious service. On Sunday while everybody else was at a church service, we walked in the woods. A far deeper and more meaningful experience than sitting in a building with somebody spouting mumbo jumbo.
