When asked about the safest descent from Mount Iclyn westward, most Neve Town inhabitants would have suggested the famous so-called “High-Way” without a second thought. That changed a couple of years ago.

The High-Way is essentially one of the longest ancient structures in Huana, an incomparably flat and wide path traversing the continent in rarely interrupted sections all the way from the eastern coast to the far west. The name was inspired by its monumental segments that span mile-wide bridges above the valleys in the northern mountain range, connecting tremendous mountain sides without changing one meter in height multiple miles in a row. When it does change in height however it oftentimes sacrifices it’s spacious and open nature in order to follow the mountain sides in narrow, unforeseeable curves. Such as on Iclyn, where the road winds up its side, passing through coniferous forests and between thick clouds, following jagged cliffs, blocked by inconveniencing obstacles in some places, eventually cutting right into the mountain. The place in question is an unnamed, insignificant tunnel on the south-western slope of the mountain, one that only recently got a reputation for being an inaccessible, cursed cave. A cave that now divides the High-Way.

Over the years, a group of banished criminals made it their home, digging narrow shafts into the concrete walls and dragging the old metal carriages sprawled across the tunnel into them.

Though the tunnel’s surroundings are covered in snow, except for a couple of days each summer, harsh winter storms and night frost can transform its cold and wet interior into a merciless snow rapid. Those ancient car wreckages serve the cave’s inhabitants as improvised homes in their warm refuge. Due to the flames the fire-type outlaws have lit in some places, the passages remain at a comfortable temperature (though the deeper inwards one goes, the more one’s will to rather be freezing on the outside of the tunnel at the moment increases), the constant exchange of hot and cool air keeping the amount of toxic gasses emitted by the fires in the air low.

As cozy as this place might sound, even lost travelers would know better than entering those caves for a safe night’s rest, as not even freezing in one’s sleep on a particularly bitter night is as certain as the infamous hot death that lurks within the tunnel.
