Résumé/Abstract : Nous présentons la biologie et la biogéographie des
trois espèces de salamandres relictes qui constituent le genre Echinotriton NUSSBAUM & BRODIE,
1982 : E. andersoni, E. chinhaiensis
et E. maxiquadratus, en confrontant
les connaissances actuelles sur ce genre et nos données de terrain originales.
Ces Urodèles aux caractéristiques particulières sont très menacés et de
nouvelles populations ou des formes cryptiques existent probablement ;
elles risquent de disparaître avant d'être décrites. Nous présentons également
quelques données d'élevage utiles dans le cadre de programmes de conservation in situ et ex situ.

We present the biology and the biogeography of the
three species of relict salamanders constituting the genus Echinotriton NUSSBAUM & BRODIE, 1982 : E. andersoni, E. chinhaiensis and E. maxiquadratus, by compiling the known
data about this genus and our original observations in situ. Those unique salamanders within the Urodela are strongly
threatened and new populations or cryptic forms probably do exist ; they
can go quickly extinct before being described. We also present some useful data
about their captive care and propagation, for in situ and ex situ
breeding programs.
