By addressing wastewater management in the garment sector, improving energy efficiency in textiles and pharmaceuticals, and developing innovative pollution control technologies tailored to high-density urban environments like Dhaka, chemical engineers provide the scientific backbone for responsible industrialization. The study highlights case studies from the Haziribazar and Narayanganj areas adjacent to Dhaka, illustrating how modern chemical engineering principles can mitigate environmental degradation while maintaining economic viability.

Bangladesh has witnessed unprecedented economic growth over the past two decades, driven largely by its ready-made garment (RMG) industry, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. At the heart of this industrial engine lies Dhaka, a megacity with a population exceeding 20 million. The density and intensity of industrial activity in Bangladesh Dhaka present unique challenges that traditional engineering approaches are ill-equipped to handle. As the city continues to grow, the demand for these specialized skills will only increase, making their contribution vital to the nation’s long-term prosperity.
