Abstract

This article examines the critical, evolving role of the professional Chemist within the socio-economic context of Caracas, Venezuela. Following a decade marked by severe economic contraction and supply chain disruptions in the pharmaceutical sector, this study analyzes how chemical scientists have adapted to ensure public health continuity. Through a qualitative analysis of policy frameworks and empirical observations from major hospitals in Caracas, we argue that the Chemist has transcended traditional laboratory roles to become a central figure in strategic resource management, local formulation development, and quality assurance. The findings suggest that reinforcing the technical capacity of Chemists is not merely an academic exercise but a national imperative for achieving pharmaceutical sovereignty and stabilizing health outcomes in the capital city.

The intersection of chemistry and public health has never been more precarious than it is in contemporary Venezuela.
