Abstract
This article examines the critical role of the electrician within the complex urban landscape of Mexico City (Ciudad de México). As a megacity facing unique infrastructural, geological, and regulatory challenges, Mexico City requires a highly specialized workforce to maintain energy reliability and public safety. This study analyzes the current state of electrical infrastructure in Mexico City, focusing on the technical competencies required for electricians working in both historic colonial architecture and modern high-density developments. Furthermore, it addresses the impact of recent regulatory changes by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) and local municipal codes on professional standards. The findings suggest that while demand for skilled electricians is at an all-time high, there remains a significant gap in standardized training and safety compliance, posing risks to urban resilience.
Mexico City (CDMX), the capital of Mexico and one of the largest metropolitan areas in North America, serves as a microcosm for rapid urbanization and infrastructural evolution in Latin America. By elevating the standards of practice, Mexico City can mitigate risks associated with aging infrastructure and environmental challenges, ensuring that its electricians are equipped to power a safe, efficient, and modern metropolis for generations to come.
