Abstract

This article examines the critical role of Industrial Engineering (IE) in facilitating economic transformation and infrastructure development within Myanmar Yangon. The findings suggest that integrating IE education and practice is pivotal for sustaining long-term economic resilience in Myanmar Yangon.

The economic landscape of Southeast Asia has undergone significant restructuring over the past two decades, with various nations leveraging low-cost labor and strategic geographic locations to attract foreign direct investment. Among these emerging hubs, Myanmar Yangon stands as a pivotal economic center. Historically the commercial capital of Myanmar, Myanmar Yangon serves as the primary gateway for international trade and domestic distribution. However, despite its strategic advantages, the region faces substantial hurdles related to operational inefficiency, outdated manufacturing processes, and fragmented supply chain networks.

In this context, Industrial Engineering (IE) emerges as a crucial discipline capable of addressing these systemic issues. Unlike traditional engineering disciplines that focus on specific technical components, Industrial Engineering is concerned with the optimization of complex processes, systems, or organizations. It integrates people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy materials such as procedures and analysis to bring about desired change and improvements. For the rapidly developing infrastructure and industrial base of Myanmar Yangon to reach its full potential must adopt these holistic engineering approaches.
