Abstract
This study examines the critical contribution of Laboratory Technicians within the urban healthcare framework of Senegal, with a specific focus on Dakar as the epicenter of medical innovation in West Africa. As Senegal continues to strengthen its primary and secondary healthcare systems, the demand for accurate diagnostic services has escalated significantly. This paper analyzes current operational challenges faced by laboratory personnel in Dakar’s public and private sectors, including resource constraints, supply chain logistics, and the need for continuous professional development. Furthermore, it proposes a framework for integrating advanced digital health tools to support technicians in high-volume settings. The findings suggest that investing in the technical capacity of Laboratory Technicians is not merely an operational necessity but a strategic imperative for achieving universal health coverage (UHC) goals in Senegal.

In the evolving landscape of global public health, the laboratory serves as the cornerstone of diagnostic medicine. In developing nations within Sub-Saharan Africa, where infectious diseases remain a predominant burden alongside a rising tide of non-communicable diseases, accurate and timely diagnostics are life-saving interventions. The investment in human capital for laboratory services is an investment in the health sovereignty of Senegal. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies to measure the impact of digital interventions on technician efficiency and patient outcomes across different tiers of care in Dakar.
