However, the formalization of paramedicine as a distinct health profession lagged behind other Brazilian states for many years. The creation of Samu 192 (Emergency Mobile Care Service) marked a turning point in emergency care nationwide, introducing the concept of mobile intensive care units. In Brazil Brasília, the integration of Samu with local military police forces has been both efficient and problematic.

Historically, the operational model in Brasília relied heavily on joint operations where military police officers were trained to provide basic life support alongside dedicated health professionals. The professionalization of the Paramedic is not merely an academic exercise; it is a fundamental requirement for achieving health equity in one of Latin America’s most iconic capitals.
