By synthesizing recent policy changes and clinical data from Riyadh-based institutions ,this paper argues that enhancing the scope of practice for Speech Therapists is essential not only for improving individual patient outcomes but also for sustaining the cognitive capital required by a diversified Saudi economy .For decades , the field of speech-language pathology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was characterized by a heavy reliance on expatriate specialists and a fragmented approach to service delivery. However, as Riyadh emerges as a global hub for business, education ,and culture under the ambit of Vision 2030, there is an urgent need to localize and expand these critical healthcare services . The Speech Therapist has transitioned from being a peripheral support staff member to an integral component of multidisciplinary teams in hospitals, schools ,and private clinics across Riyadh . This article explores this transformation , highlighting the specific socio-cultural dynamics at play in the capital city and discussing how strategic investments in Speech Therapy can yield substantial societal returns. Historically, access to specialized communication services in Saudi Arabia was limited, particularly outside major metropolitan areas . In Riyadh , while tertiary care hospitals such as King Faisal Specialist Hospital and King Khalid University Hospital established speech pathology departments early on , the scope of practice was often restricted to severe neurological cases or pediatric autism spectrum disorders. The majority of practitioners were expatriates who lacked familiarity with Arabic dialectal variations, which are crucial for accurate assessment and intervention.
