This article investigates the evolving role of the Systems Engineer within the dynamic technological landscape of Valencia, Spain. This study analyzes current educational frameworks in Valencian higher education institutions, industry requirements across sectors ranging from maritime technology to sustainable agriculture (AgriTech), and the regulatory environment influencing professional practice. Our findings indicate a significant gap between traditional academic curricula and the agile, multidisciplinary demands of modern industry. We propose a revised competency model that integrates soft skills, ethical considerations in AI implementation, and specialized regional knowledge applicable to Valencia's specific economic drivers.

In recent years, Spain has positioned itself as a growing destination for technology investment in Southern Europe. Within this broader national context, the Valencian Community has emerged as a particularly vibrant center for innovation and digital transformation. The city of Valencia itself acts as the nucleus of this technological ecosystem, hosting numerous startups, multinational corporate offices specializing in software engineering and telecommunications infrastructure (Spain Valencia). Central to this development is the professional profile of the Systems Engineer.

Systems Engineering (SE) is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on how complex systems are designed and managed over their life cycles.
