The paper argues that supporting the training and certification of welders in Zimbabwe’s capital is essential for sustainable urban development.

The narrative of industrialization in Southern Africa is frequently dominated by macroeconomic policies and foreign direct investment metrics. However, the micro-level execution of these strategies relies heavily on the competencies of skilled artisans, particularly the welder. In Harare, Zimbabwe’s largest city and economic hub, the demand for high-quality welding services has surged due to a combination of aging infrastructure needs and a burgeoning informal manufacturing sector.
