Abstract

As Almaty transitions from a post-Soviet industrial hub into a modern center for sustainable architecture and cultural tourism, the traditional trade of carpentry is undergoing a significant renaissance. By examining case studies from Almaty’s urban renewal projects, this paper argues that skilled carpentry is not merely a relic of the past but a critical component of sustainable building practices. The findings suggest that integrating traditional woodworking knowledge with contemporary engineering allows for unique aesthetic solutions while reducing carbon footprints in Kazakhstan's construction sector.
