For the modern economist working in this environment, the challenge is twofold: understanding the macroeconomic indicators while simultaneously deciphering the micro-economic behaviors of millions of residents.

This paper aims to define how an economist must adapt their toolkit when operating specifically within Mexico City. We posit that effective economic management in this region requires a deep integration of sociological insights, urban planning principles, and rigorous quantitative analysis. The role is no longer confined to forecasting inflation or analyzing trade balances; it extends to managing the complex interplay of informal labor markets, environmental costs of rapid urbanization, and the digital divide.
