Nowhere is this more evident than in Bogotá, Colombia, which has emerged as a primary hub for intellectual capital and technological innovation in South America. This paper argues that for Bogotá to achieve its economic and social development goals, it must fully leverage the analytical rigor and quantitative skills inherent in physics training.The significance of this discussion cannot be overstated. As a capital city grappling with urbanization, environmental sustainability issues, and digital transformation, Bogotá needs experts who can model complex systems. The physicist serves as that expert. This document outlines the current state of physics education and employment in Colombia and proposes strategies to enhance the visibility and utility of physicists in national development.2. The State of Physics Education in ColombiaInstitutions such as the National University of Colombia (Universidad Nacional de Colombia), Los Andes University, and El Bosque University have long been pillars of scientific education. However, the curriculum has traditionally focused heavily on theoretical physics and pedagogy for secondary education.There is a growing recognition among policymakers in Bogotá that this traditional model must be supplemented with applied sciences. The modern physicist must be proficient in computational methods, data analysis, and experimental design applicable to industrial settings.
