Abstract

This paper examines the critical role of the veterinarian in shaping public health policies and ensuring food safety within the rapidly urbanizing context of Vietnam, specifically Ho Chi Minh City. As a megacity with a population exceeding nine million, Ho Chi Minh City faces unique challenges regarding zoonotic disease transmission, rabies control, and antimicrobial resistance. The intersection of human health, animal health, and environmental sustainability has become a focal point for global public policy. In the context of Southeast Asia, Vietnam stands as a critical battleground for managing emerging infectious diseases. Within this national framework, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) presents a distinct set of challenges due to its density, economic dynamism, and complex social fabric. The traditional definition of a veterinarian as solely an animal healer is obsolete in the modern megacity. 2.1 Rabies Eradication Efforts

Strengthening the link between animal health and human health through robust veterinary services will serve as a model for other urban centers in Vietnam and beyond. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies measuring the impact of these integrated interventions on public health outcomes in HCMC.
