The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining archival research with semi-structured interviews conducted with retired and active-duty Military Officers based in Harare.

The role of Military Officers in post-colonial African states has been extensively debated. Scholars such as Adebayo (1998) and Hountondji (2004) argue that military institutions often act as both stabilizing forces and sources of political interference, depending on the context. In Zimbabwe Harare, this duality is evident, with the ZNA historically involved in counterinsurgency operations during the 1970s and 1980s. More recently, military personnel have been implicated in economic policy-making and electoral processes, raising questions about their neutrality. Secondary data includes policy documents, military reports, and academic publications on defense matters in Zimbabwe. The research was conducted between January 2023 and March 2023, ensuring a comprehensive analysis of Military Officers' roles within the socio-political framework of Zimbabwe Harare.

4.1 Contributions to National Security:
The ZNA plays a pivotal role in safeguarding national borders and responding to internal threats, particularly in Zimbabwe Harare, where political tensions and urban unrest are common. Interviewees emphasized the military's involvement in counter-terrorism operations and disaster relief efforts, such as during the 2019 floods. However, challenges like outdated equipment and insufficient training hinder operational effectiveness.
