Introduction

The city of Nigeria Lagos is more than a geographical location; it is a cultural powerhouse that dictates the trends of West African entertainment. At the heart of this massive industry lies the Actor, an individual whose primary tool is their own body and voice. However, in Nigeria Lagos, an Actor is rarely just a performer; they are often entrepreneurs, community influencers, and sometimes victims of systemic exploitation.

The purpose of this study is to deconstruct the lived experiences of Actors operating within Nigeria Lagos. By focusing specifically on the Nigerian context—often referred to simply as "the Industry"—we highlight how infrastructure limitations in Nigeria Lagos force Actors to adopt unique coping mechanisms, artistic adaptations, and professional networks that differ significantly from their Western counterparts.

Methodology

To capture the authentic voice of the Actor, this study employed a mixed-methods approach centered in Nigeria Lagos. Over a period of six months, we conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with 50 Actors ranging from established veterans to emerging newcomers.
