This poster presentation outlines how professional chemists can leverage analytical skills and regulatory knowledge to address specific public health crises and environmental degradations prevalent in Nigeria Lagos. The focus shifts from theoretical chemistry to applied solutions that safeguard human health and ecological balance.

Potable water remains a critical issue in many parts of Nigeria Lagos, particularly in informal settlements and rapidly developing areas like Ibeju-Lekki and Badagry. The primary responsibility of the community chemist involves rigorous monitoring of water sources.

  • Pollutant Detection: Utilizing spectroscopy to detect heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium which often contaminate groundwater due to improper waste disposal from industrial zones like Ikeja Industrial Estate.
