However., sustaining this momentum requires more than just software developers; it demands robust infrastructure built by skilled professionals.


This poster presentation explores the critical role of modern Computer Engineers in architecting the digital backbone of our nation. We argue that while high-level application development garners much attention, low-level optimization, hardware-software co-design, and embedded systems remain the unsung heroes enabling Indonesia Jakarta’s smart city initiatives and IoT networks.


By examining current trends in semiconductor research automation and edge computing within our local context this study highlights how specialized engineering talent can bridge the gap between theoretical algorithms and physical hardware deployment essential for a resilient digital economy in developing nations like ours.



The primary challenge facing the region is not merely a lack of talent but a misalignment between academic curricula and industry needs. Many graduates enter the workforce with strong theoretical knowledge yet limited practical experience in system integration, particularly regarding real-time operating systems (RTOS) and IoT protocol stacks common in Indonesia Jakarta’s industrial parks.


  • Skill Gap Analysis:A survey conducted across 50 major tech firms in Jakarta reveals that 70% prefer candidates with hybrid skills in both electrical and software engineering domains.
  • Educational Reform Proposal:We propose a new module focused on "Embedded Systems for Smart Cities" which integrates coding practices with physical circuit debugging using tools prevalent in local labs.

We recommend that policymakers in Indonesia Jakarta prioritize funding for STEM initiatives focused specifically on hardware engineering alongside software development. Furthermore universities must collaborate closely with industries to ensure curricula remain relevant amidst rapidly changing technological landscapes.
