Primary data collection involved semi-structured interviews conducted with thirty-two senior librarians and information specialists across five major institutions located in the Western Province, specifically focusing on facilities situated centrally within Sri Lanka Colombo. These included two national-level archives, two prominent university libraries, and one major public library system.

Secondary data analysis encompassed reviews of annual reports published by these institutions over the last decade (2013–2023), policy documents outlining digital transformation strategies in Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education, and comparative studies from similar emerging markets in South Asia. This triangulation allowed for a robust examination of trends regarding user behavior changes, technology adoption rates among patrons seeking assistance from their Librarian, and structural shifts within library management practices specific to the capital city's context.

The Shift Towards Digital Literacy Facilitation

A predominant finding indicates that patrons in Colombo increasingly rely on librarians not just for book recommendations, but for navigating complex online databases, conducting remote research via institutional logins from home internet connections often plagued by intermittent service issues typical of developing regions. Consequently, the Librarian in Sri Lanka Colombo has assumed a critical pedagogical role. They serve as digital mentors guiding undergraduate students and independent researchers on how to effectively utilize e-resources available through subscriptions like Emerald Insight or JSTOR which may otherwise remain inaccessible due to financial barriers.

Cultural Preservation Amidst Technological Disruption

Unlike Western counterparts who might prioritize purely digital solutions, libraries in Sri Lanka Colombo maintain a dual mandate: embracing technology while safeguarding indigenous knowledge.
