The city of Alexandria, situated on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, represents a unique demographic and epidemiological landscape. As the second-largest city in Egypt and a major hub for trade, tourism, and academic medicine, Alexandria presents distinct public health challenges that differ significantly from those found in Upper Egypt or rural Delta regions. For any dedicated Medical Researcher, understanding these nuances is critical for developing effective healthcare interventions.

This poster presentation aims to highlight recent findings regarding the prevalence of vector-borne diseases, non-communicable lifestyle disorders, and the efficacy of primary care frameworks within Alexandria’s densely populated urban centers. The context of this study is deeply rooted in the local geography and socio-economic fabric of Egypt Alexandria, making it an essential case study for broader Middle Eastern health research.

The primary goal of this longitudinal study was to evaluate the shifting patterns of morbidity among the Alexandrian population over a five-year period. Specifically, as a practicing medical researcher in this region, I sought to address three core questions:

  1. Epidemiological Shift: How has the incidence of Dengue fever and Zika virus correlates changed following climatic variations in the Mediterranean basin?
  2. Clinical Adherence: What is the level of patient adherence to treatment protocols for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in public hospitals within Alexandria?
  3. Resource Utilization: How does the availability of specialized medical research facilities in Alexandria influence early diagnosis rates compared to national averages?

To ensure rigorous scientific integrity, this study employed a mixed-methods approach involving both quantitative data analysis and qualitative patient interviews. Data was collected from three major teaching hospitals in Alexandria: El-Hadara University Hospital, Medical Research Institute (MRI), and Sidi Gaber General Hospital.

Data Collection

  • Cohort Selection: A random sample of 2,500 patients was selected from outpatient clinics.
  • Clinical Parameters:

    • - Blood glucose levels and HbA1c readings
    • - Serological testing for arboviruses
    • - BMI and cardiovascular markers

This poster presentation has outlined critical health trends currently affecting Alexandria. As a medical researcher, it is evident that data-driven interventions are essential for improving public health outcomes in this vibrant Egyptian city. By focusing on early detection, community education, and inter-agency collaboration, we can mitigate the rising burden of infectious and chronic diseases.

We call for increased funding for local research institutions in Alexandria to support continued longitudinal studies. Only through sustained scientific inquiry can we hope to build a healthier future for the people of Egypt Alexandria.
