Mexico City’s healthcare sector is characterized by a mix of public institutions like IMSS (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social) and ISSSTE, alongside private facilities. The nurse operates at the intersection of these systems. Historically underrepresented in policy-making, modern nursing in this region is undergoing a transformation driven by post-pandemic realities and increased demand for specialized care.

This poster highlights the necessity of recognizing nursing not merely as an auxiliary role, but as a central pillar of public health strategy in Mexico City. The unique demographic density requires nurses to possess advanced triage skills and cultural competence.

Data for this Presentation academic analysis was derived from:

• A systematic review of nursing journals focusing on Latin American urban health.


• Semi-structured interviews with registered nurses working in top-tier hospitals in the boroughs of Cuauhtémoc and Benito Juárez.


• Analysis of government health policies regarding workforce distribution in Mexico City.

  The research identifies three primary obstacles:

  
  
  1. Bureaucratic Overload: Nurses in Mexico Mexico City's public sector often spend up to 30% of their shift on administrative tasks rather than direct patient care.
  
  
  2. Resource Scarcity: Despite high volumes of patients, certain clinics face intermittent shortages of basic medical supplies, testing the resilience and adaptability of the Nurse.
  
  
  3. Emotional Burnout: The high-stress environment contributes to significant rates of burnout among nursing staff.

  A significant portion of this poster is dedicated to the adoption of digital tools. Electronic Health Records (EHR) are being implemented across major hospitals in Mexico City. The modern Nurse must now be proficient in data entry and telemedicine platforms. This shift enhances patient tracking but requires continuous education and training.

  To address these challenges, there is a strong push for continuing education. Universities in the region are partnering with hospitals to offer specialization courses in critical care, geriatrics, and community health. The educational framework aims to produce a Nurse who is not only clinically skilled but also capable of leadership and advocacy.

  The future of healthcare in Mexico City depends heavily on empowering the nursing workforce. By addressing bureaucratic hurdles, investing in digital literacy, and expanding educational opportunities, the healthcare system can improve outcomes. The Nurse remains the heartbeat of this medical infrastructure.
