Ivory Coast has made remarkable strides in recent years toward achieving universal health coverage. However, the specific dynamics of Abidjan present unique challenges and opportunities. As the largest city in the country, Abidjan houses a diverse population ranging from highly insured private sector employees to informal workers relying on out-of-pocket expenditures. The healthcare infrastructure is robust yet strained by high patient volumes.

In this context, the Pharmacist serves as one of the most accessible healthcare professionals for Ivorian citizens. Unlike physicians who often require appointments and have long waiting times, pharmacies are ubiquitous across all districts of Abidjan, from Plateau to Cocody and Yopougon. Despite this accessibility, the traditional role of the Pharmacist in Ivory Coast has largely been restricted to product dispensing rather than patient-centered clinical care. This report identifies a significant gap between the current operational model and the potential impact that a clinically empowered Pharmacist could have on community health in Abidjan.

The primary objective of this project is to redefine and expand the scope of practice for the Pharmacist in Ivory Coast Abidjan. Specifically, we aim to:

• Clinical Integration:_Trains_ Pharmacists in basic diagnostic skills, patient counseling, and chronic disease management protocols tailored to local epidemiological trends.
• Digital Transformation:__Implementing robust electronic prescription systems and drug inventory management tools across pharmacies in Abidjan to enhance traceability and reduce stockouts of essential medicines.
• _Public Health Education:_ Establishing the Pharmacist as a key educator for communities regarding vaccination, hygiene practices, and responsible medication usage.

In the third phase, we will launch pilot programs in three distinct districts of Abidjan: Cocody (high-income), Marcory (mixed-income), and Yopougon (dense, low-income). In these areas, Pharmacists will offer free basic health screenings such as blood pressure and glucose monitoring. The data collected from these screenings will provide valuable insights into the health needs of specific populations, allowing for targeted interventions by the Pharmacist.

The successful execution of this project is expected to yield profound benefits for the healthcare system in Ivory Coast Abidjan. By shifting the Pharmacist's role from a mere distributor of drugs to an active participant in patient care, we anticipate a measurable reduction in adverse drug reactions and medication non-adherence.

We acknowledge potential challenges, including resistance to change among traditionalists who may view the expanded role of the Pharmacist as an encroachment on medical authority. To mitigate this, we will establish joint committees involving both Physicians and Pharmacists in Ivory Coast Abidjan to foster collaboration rather than competition. Additionally, resource constraints may delay technological rollout; therefore, we will seek partnerships with private sector tech companies and international development organizations to subsidize costs.
