2. Scope of Work – Biologist Engagement

This Purchase Order is issued by Te Tai o Aoraki Environmental Research Institute to formally engage the above-named Biologist to provide specialist ecological assessment, field sampling, and laboratory analysis services in and around New Zealand Wellington. The Biologist shall conduct all work in accordance with the New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) guidelines, the Resource Management Act 1991, and the local planning provisions of the Wellington Regional Council. The engagement covers the Wellington Harbour, the Hutt River estuary, and the surrounding terrestrial habitats within the Wellington City Council boundary.

4. Terms and Conditions
  1. This Purchase Order is governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes arising from this Purchase Order shall be resolved in the District Court of Wellington, New Zealand.
  2. The Biologist shall comply with all applicable New Zealand legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, the Resource Management Act 1991, the Conservation Act 1987, and the Biosecurity Act 1993.
  3. All fieldwork conducted in New Zealand Wellington shall be carried out in accordance with the Wellington Regional Council's coastal and freshwater management plans. The Biologist must obtain any necessary resource consents prior to commencing sampling activities.
  4. The Biologist shall maintain a minimum of $10,000,000 in professional indemnity insurance and $20,000,000 in public liability insurance, with Te Tai o Aoraki Environmental Research Institute named as an additional insured party.
  5. Payment shall be made within 30 calendar days of receipt of a valid tax invoice from the Biologist. Invoices must include the NZBN, GST registration number, and a reference to this Purchase Order number (PO-2025-WLG-0487).
  6. All data, reports, and intellectual property generated under this Purchase Order shall become the property of Te Tai o Aoraki Environmental Research Institute upon full payment. The Biologist retains the right to publish anonymised findings in peer-reviewed journals with prior written consent.
  7. The Biologist shall adhere to the Māori Data Sovereignty principles (Te Mana Raraunga) when handling data relating to taonga (treasured resources) within the Wellington region, and shall engage with local iwi (Te Ākitai Waiohua) as appropriate.
  8. Any variation to the scope of work must be agreed in writing via a formal Purchase Order amendment. Verbal instructions do not constitute a valid variation under this Purchase Order.
  9. The Biologist shall submit a progress report to the Institute's Project Manager every two weeks for the duration of the engagement in New Zealand Wellington.
  10. This Purchase Order is valid for acceptance until 14 July 2025. Failure to accept by this date shall render this Purchase Order null and void.
