This Purchase Order is issued by the Northern Cape Advanced Research Institute (NCARI), headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, to procure the professional services of a qualified Physicist for a period of twelve (12) months. The Physicist shall be engaged to perform advanced research, laboratory supervision, and technical consultancy duties within the NCARI facilities located in the Sandton and Braamfontein precincts of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
The Physicist is expected to hold a minimum of a Doctorate (PhD) in Physics or a closely related discipline, with a minimum of eight (8) years of post-qualification experience in applied or theoretical physics. The Physicist must be a registered professional in good standing with the relevant South African professional bodies and must be physically present in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a minimum of five (5) working days per week during the contract term.

5.1 This Purchase Order is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa and shall be interpreted in accordance with the South African common law and applicable statutory provisions, including the National Treasury Regulations and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) where applicable.
5.2 The Physicist shall commence duties on 1 July 2025 at the NCARI primary laboratory in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa, and shall continue until 30 June 2026, unless terminated earlier in accordance with Clause 5.6.
5.3 Payment shall be made on a monthly basis within thirty (30) days of receipt of a valid tax invoice from the Physicist. All payments shall be made via electronic funds transfer (EFT) to the bank account nominated in writing by the Physicist.
5.4 The Physicist is an independent contractor and not an employee of NCARI. The Physicist shall be responsible for all personal income tax (PAYE) obligations, Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) contributions, and any other statutory deductions applicable to independent professionals in South Africa.
5.5 All intellectual property, research findings, data sets, and publications generated by the Physicist during the term of this Purchase Order while performing duties at NCARI facilities in Johannesburg shall vest in NCARI, subject to a written agreement to the contrary.
5.6 Either party may terminate this Purchase Order with thirty (30) days' written notice. In the event of material breach, termination may be effected immediately upon written notice.
5.7 The Physicist shall comply with all occupational health and safety regulations as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) of South Africa, particularly those relating to the operation of high-energy physics equipment in the Johannesburg laboratory environment.
5.8 All work performed under this Purchase Order shall be conducted within the boundaries of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng Province, South Africa, unless prior written approval is obtained from NCARI for off-site work.
All services rendered under this Purchase Order shall be performed at the following location in Johannesburg, South Africa:
NCARI Primary Research Facility, 1204 Rivonia Road, Sandton, Johannesburg, 2196, Gauteng, South Africa. Secondary work may be conducted at the Braamfontein Quantum Laboratory, 445 Jan Smuts Avenue, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2013, South Africa.
