This Quotation Estimate is issued by Zimbabwe Astronomical Services (Pvt) Ltd to formally outline the scope, deliverables, and associated costs for the engagement of a professional Astronomer and supporting technical team to conduct a comprehensive celestial observation programme, educational outreach, and research consultancy in Zimbabwe Harare and its surrounding regions. This document serves as a binding cost proposal and shall remain valid for the period stated above unless otherwise communicated in writing by either party.
2. Scope of Services – Astronomer Engagement in Zimbabwe HarareThe Astronomer and associated team will deliver the following services within the Zimbabwe Harare metropolitan area and designated rural observation sites:
- Professional Astronomer Consultancy: A senior Astronomer with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of post-doctoral experience in observational astrophysics will be deployed to Harare for a period of twelve (12) weeks. The Astronomer will oversee all research activities, mentor local graduate students, and produce a final technical report on variable star observations in the Southern Hemisphere sky visible from Zimbabwe Harare.
- Celestial Observation Campaign: The Astronomer will coordinate a six-week deep-sky observation campaign utilising the 600mm Ritchey-Chrétien telescope at the Nyanga Highlands site. This campaign will focus on mapping transient phenomena, including supernovae, gamma-ray burst afterglows, and near-Earth asteroid tracking relevant to the Zimbabwe Harare region.
- Public Outreach & Education: The Astronomer will conduct a minimum of eight (8) public stargazing events at the Harare Botanical Gardens and the National Arts Museum grounds. Each event will accommodate up to 200 attendees and will include guided telescope viewing, lectures on the night sky, and interactive Q&A sessions. These events are designed to promote scientific literacy across Zimbabwe Harare communities.
- Instrumentation Calibration & Maintenance: The Astronomer will perform full calibration, alignment, and preventive maintenance on all optical and electronic instruments housed at the Harare observatory facility, ensuring operational readiness for the subsequent academic year.
- Data Analysis & Publication Support: The Astronomer will process and analyse all collected photometric and spectroscopic data, prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts for submission to international journals, and present findings at the Southern African Astronomical Society conference held in Harare.

This Quotation Estimate is structured with the following payment schedule:
- 30% Advance Payment (USD 63,930.57) due upon signature of the service agreement, prior to the Astronomer's deployment to Zimbabwe Harare.
- 40% Progress Payment (USD 85,240.76) due at the midpoint of the engagement (Week 6), upon submission of interim observation data.
- 30% Final Payment (USD 63,930.57) due within fourteen (14) calendar days of delivery of the final technical report and completion of all outreach events.
- This Quotation Estimate is valid for ninety (90) days from the date of issue. Any request for services beyond this period will require a revised Quotation Estimate reflecting current market rates.
- All services will be performed in compliance with the Zimbabwe National Research Council (NRC) regulations and the Zimbabwe Meteorological Services Department (ZIMSTAT) guidelines for astronomical observation.
- The Astronomer and team shall adhere to all local laws of Zimbabwe, including but not limited to the Immigration Act, the Environmental Management Act, and the Public Health Act applicable in Harare and Mashonaland Province.
- Intellectual property generated during the engagement shall be jointly owned by Zimbabwe Astronomical Services (Pvt) Ltd and the University of Zimbabwe, as stipulated in the separate Intellectual Property Agreement.
- Force majeure events, including but not limited to severe weather, civil unrest, or government-imposed restrictions in Zimbabwe Harare, may result in schedule adjustments. Both parties shall negotiate in good faith to mitigate delays.
- All costs are quoted in United States Dollars (USD). Payment shall be made via bank transfer to the account details provided in the accompanying invoice. The client is responsible for any foreign exchange conversion fees.
- This Quotation Estimate does not constitute a contract until both parties have executed the formal Service Agreement. Acceptance of this Quotation Estimate is subject to the terms outlined herein.
