This Quotation Estimate is issued by Mediterranean Marine Research & Consulting S.L. to provide a comprehensive and itemized financial proposal for the engagement of a senior Oceanographer and associated oceanographic support services. The scope of work is specifically tailored for deployment and execution within the coastal and marine environment of Spain Barcelona, encompassing the Port of Barcelona, the Llobregat estuary, and the adjacent Mediterranean waters extending up to 25 nautical miles offshore. This document serves as a formal estimate of all costs, deliverables, and professional obligations associated with the project.
The contracted Oceanographer shall perform the following duties and deliverables as part of this engagement in Spain Barcelona:
- Hydrographic and Bathymetric Survey: Conduct a full multibeam echosounder survey of the seabed topography in the waters immediately adjacent to the Port of Barcelona, producing high-resolution bathymetric maps at a scale of 1:5,000. The Oceanographer will calibrate all sonar equipment and ensure compliance with the Spanish Hydrographic Service (SHM) standards.
- Water Quality Monitoring Programme: Design and execute a 12-month water quality monitoring programme across 18 designated sampling stations along the Barcelona coastline, from the Maresme coast to the Garraf cliffs. Parameters to be measured include dissolved oxygen, salinity, turbidity, pH, chlorophyll-a, nutrient concentrations (nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, silicate), and heavy metal content.
- Marine Currents and Tidal Modelling: Deploy and operate a network of 12 ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) moorings and 6 surface drifters to characterise the prevailing current patterns, tidal harmonics, and seasonal variability in the Barcelona coastal zone. The Oceanographer will produce a validated numerical model of the local hydrodynamics.
- Marine Sediment Analysis: Collect and analyse 40 grab and box-core sediment samples to assess sediment grain size distribution, organic matter content, and potential contamination levels in the harbour and nearshore areas of Spain Barcelona.
- Environmental Impact Assessment Support: Provide expert oceanographic input to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed expansion of the Port of Barcelona terminal infrastructure, in accordance with Spanish Royal Decree 1/2017 and EU Directive 2014/52/EU.
- Reporting and Deliverables: Submit a comprehensive final technical report in both Spanish and English, including all raw data, processed datasets, GIS layers, and a public presentation at the ICM-CSIC headquarters in Barcelona.
