This Quotation Estimate is formally submitted to the Tanzania National Environment Management Council (NEMC) in Dar es Salaam to provide a comprehensive, itemized cost breakdown for the engagement of a qualified Oceanographer and supporting marine science team. The scope of work encompasses a full-cycle oceanographic survey, environmental impact assessment, and long-term coastal monitoring programme to be conducted within the waters and coastal zones of Tanzania Dar es Salaam. This Quotation Estimate reflects current market rates, regulatory compliance requirements under Tanzanian environmental law, and the specialized expertise necessary to deliver high-quality oceanographic data in the unique marine environment surrounding Dar es Salaam.
The engaged Oceanographer shall perform the following duties and deliverables within the jurisdiction of Tanzania Dar es Salaam:
2.1 Bathymetric and Hydrographic Survey
Conduct multi-beam sonar mapping of the Kigamboni Channel and the Msimbazi River estuary to produce updated depth charts. The Oceanographer will calibrate all instruments against known reference points in Dar es Salaam harbour and submit georeferenced bathymetric datasets in GeoTIFF and ESRI Shapefile formats.
2.2 Water Quality and Chemical Analysis
Deploy the Oceanographer to collect and analyse water samples at a minimum of twenty-five (25) stations across the coastal zone of Tanzania Dar es Salaam. Parameters include dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH, turbidity, heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium), nutrient loading (nitrate, phosphate), and hydrocarbon residues. All sampling shall comply with the Tanzania Environmental Management Act (Cap. 202) and NEMC guidelines.
2.3 Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Assessment
The Oceanographer, in coordination with marine biologists, will assess coral reef health, seagrass meadow extent, and benthic community composition along the Dar es Salaam coastline. This component supports the national marine protected area management plan for the Tanzania Dar es Salaam region.
2.4 Coastal Erosion and Sediment Transport Modelling
Utilize numerical modelling software (Delft3D, MIKE 21) to simulate sediment transport patterns and predict coastal erosion hotspots in Tanzania Dar es Salaam over a ten-year horizon. The Oceanographer will present findings in a technical report suitable for urban planning authorities in Dar es Salaam.
2.5 Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer
Deliver a minimum of four (4) training workshops for Tanzanian marine science students and NEMC staff based in Dar es Salaam, covering modern oceanographic field techniques, data management, and environmental reporting standards.
