Global health literature consistently highlights the importance of Dentists in combating preventable diseases such as dental caries, periodontal disease, and oral cancer. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Uganda, access to dental services is often constrained by factors such as limited infrastructure, inadequate funding, and a shortage of trained professionals. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the dentist-to-population ratio in Uganda is significantly below global standards, exacerbating disparities in oral health outcomes.

Studies specific to Uganda Kampala reveal that urban centers like Kampala face unique challenges due to overcrowding, poverty, and a lack of awareness about preventive dental care. Dentists in these areas must navigate complex socio-economic barriers while providing services to diverse populations, including children, the elderly, and marginalized communities.

The study highlights the potential for integrating dental care into broader public health strategies, such as school-based fluoride programs or mobile dental clinics serving underserved neighborhoods.

Furthermore, the role of Dentists in advocating for policy changes cannot be ignored. By collaborating with local governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Dentists can influence legislation that prioritizes oral health funding and training.
