Armor with fluted surfaces\u2013\u2013closely set rows of sunken channels\u2013\u2013is often referred to as the Maximilian style, which was popular in the early sixteenth century. This helmet, an excellent example of the type known as a closed burgonet, was probably made by Kolman Helmschmid (1471\u20131532), the leading Augsburg armorer of his generation.
