cable TV listing guides for 1984, beginning with January (Burt Reynolds in "Best Friends"); February ("Flashdance" and "Sophie's Choice," and Linda Ronstadt in "The Pirates of Penzance"); March (Nick Nolte in "48 HRS."); April (Christopher Reeve in "Superman III" - April also marked the debut of CableView's magazine for San Francisco Viacom); May (Dustin Hoffman in "Tootsie," also "WarGames," "Twilight Zone: The Movie," and a Barry Manilow special); June (Carrie Fisher, and Chevy Chase in "National Lampoon's Vacation"); July (Roger Moore in "Octopussy"); August (Tom Cruise in "Risky Business," and Jessica Lange); September (Sigourney Weaver); October (Kevin Kline, and "Never Say Never Again"); November (Harrison Ford in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Trading Places" and "Gandhi"); and December (Meryl Streep in "Silkwood"). CableView, which was
based in New York City, and later in Edgewater, N.J., produced guides
for cable systems around the country. It appears to have folded in the
mid-2000s. Note: Because some cable systems did not offer all premium channels (some might only have HBO and Cinemax, or only Showtime and the Movie Channel), if a big premiere was an exclusive to one service or another, an alternate cover would be produced (hence, a cover with either "Sophie's Choice," "Flashdance," or "Sophie's Choice" AND "Flashdance").
