The Fred Harvey story is told in the 500 page book Appetite for America by Stephen Fried [2010]. From p. 403 of the Appendix: "...major blasts from Fred Harvey's past. The first is bittersweet. The Castaneda, the Santa Fe's original Mission Revival Fred Harvey hotel and the site of the Rough Riders' reunion, is still there, but just barely."Allan Affeldt has changed that from "but just barely" [2010] to "bigtime" [2014-2019] - and like La Posada, the LTBC bore witness to that change.
Last Thursday Book Club traveled to Las Vegas, New Mexico, USA on Thursday 24 October 2019. Open once again after 70 years, it was quite a "Fred Harvey Weekend."
