Whenever I travel, I like to find something interesting to draw. There\u2019s always an Old Church, Fire Station or Engine Company around somewhere that still active or that\u2019s been converted into a bar, restaurant, nightclub or modern office space.
This is my \u201cField Study\u201d of ENGINE COMPANY 16 TRUCK COMPANY 3. Located in downtown Washington, D.C. Designed by architect Albert L Harris and built in 1932, this beautiful building is listed on The National Register of Historic Places and is still in service today as an Active Fire Station. It\u2019s sandwiched in between some modern office buildings and I wonder if the people who work in those offices ever even notice this little building or take a moment to stop and appreciate its beauty.
It\u2019s surprising how loud city streets can be when they\u2019re filled with cars, busses and delivery trucks and between the noise and the constant interruptions from people asking me questions, it\u2019s a real challenge to do an urban field study.
My study was done with a Black BIC e Roller Glide Grip Pen, Gray Copic Markers and a Black Sharpie on a 14\u201d X 17\u201d sheet of Strathmore 400 Series 80 lb. Drawing Paper. Study by David Reuter
