"In The Timeless Air"

by: Wes Robert Ward

Shopping cart in the timeless air why can't you let us breathe down here? In a land that smelled the flowers so sweet and fresh, now it's nothing but masks that we detest. Despair, despair in the timeless air.

Are you a sign from the angels above? A sign from our God who we adore and love? Perhaps you're a symbol of a world we used to know. An Earth that has always grown. Green as green can be, blue as the endless sea.

Oh dear shopping cart, how do we get you down to the ground that your wheels have always found? A ladder perhaps or a stairway to heaven? Maybe a twitch of our nose or a snap of our fingers, yet deep down we all know you'll always linger. Why? Probably because you're made of metal almost like a messed up bicycle without brakes and pedal.

No matter there's always seven or more, or eleven or twenty-seven, or fifty-two. Nothing so true for this life and the next we'll have more to come\u2026 even some with old crusty gum. Like the lemmings drawn to the cold dark sea, where there's stores aplenty there be more you'll see. They mate like rabbits, another mythical store habit. They breed like the Kangaroo behind many dumpsters too.

And if God gives us another deluge I'm sure our next Noah will find one or two. Imagine an ark full of grocery carts. Without them our hearts will be broken apart. Split down the middle and we'd have to carry our goods if only we could.

In the air the grocery cart mocks us. Do we cuss? Do we fuss? No, we continue our way of life through struggles and strife with a knife to our throat and a gun to our head, and yet we'll never die and fall dead in a grocery cart in that we all take heart.

Before that we'd rather depart the usual way\u2026 deathbed, backyard, or whatever comes our way. So never mock us grocery cart, understand? This is our land not yours. You may be on all fours and on squeaky wheels, but we've climbed hills and mountains and drank from many fountains of youth.

And not once have we needed you in high regards in times that were hard except to fill you with beer, rum, vodka, whiskey, and vermouth. And that's the honest truth.

Despair, despair in the timeless air. What once was fair is no longer there, and yet one day the grocery cart won't be there hanging in the timeless air.

And we the human race will disappear like our metal friends with squeaky wheels. Extinction without no pardon, dead and rotten, and long forgotten.

Timeless as it may be we must see what we may never see and stand in the parking lot of endless days and nights and look upon the shopping cart, not as a thing but as a symbol of what we've become and to no prevail it is our holy grail.

The End.
