As in many
German cities, the imposing synagogue in Kaiserslautern was destroyed by the
Nazis.
A part of
the entrance archway survived or could be restored. A few photographs survived, and the site in
now a memorial. Binoculars on stands are equipped with pictures inside so that
you can see (in sepia) what the view from that point would have been before the
destruction.
