That is Beatrice, left, and Ada, Horace's step-mom. I believe this was taken in 1919, which would have made Horace about 13, not quite high school age yet. They may or may not have moved to Los Angeles by this time, since our dad, Horace, went to L.A. High School. I just don't know. I do know that when they first moved to California, it was to Gardena, and their house was some distance past the end of the trolley line. I don't know anything else about our father\u2019s education other than he graduated from L.A. High School.

Okay, I also know that his mom was a teacher, and a progressive one at that. So progressive that, although Horace was left-hand dominant, she forced him to learn to write with his right hand, which he did his whole life.

As usual, Beatrice is not looking any too pleased about any damn thing. Of course, her mom isn't either once again.

I do note that it appears the material for both dresses is the same. Perhaps they were home made. Beatrice seems to be wearing more modern shoes as well, or at least not tall lace-ups.
