Around the end of March the city of Grand Rapids began to attach all-weather, semi-permanent warning signs to playground equipment to keep visitors from shedding coronavirus on the surfaces that could infect others. Shortly before this action a published report from New England Journal of Medicine found that germs could live on hard surfaces for up to three days and cardboard for 1 day. At the outdoor basketball courts some of the restless young people were playing against each other, not observing the 6' social distance guidelines for standing and walking (wider distance for physical exertion when water droplets may travel greater distance before gravity pulls them downward). One solution around the city has been to bolt squares of plywood above and below the hoops to form a sandwich so that no ball can fall through the covered hoop. At skateboard parks in southern California there was a news story of the city covering the surfaces in sand to discourage riders from gathering there.
