At the time this picture was taken, we lived in an unfinished barn. Not that the barn was incomplete, but rather the inside was not significantly altered or upgraded. I cut holes in the front and rear walls, installed windows and hinged house doors (as opposed to hinged Dutch barn doors), but initially there was no insulation or running water. We never had electricity in the barn. The interior walls were 1x6 T&G, outside hand split cedar shakes, many more than 2 feet wide and 5 feet long. I later met and got to know one of the two brothers who hand split much of the structure and all of the exterior wall and roof shakes of three relatively large buildings on our property.

While we clearly had a lower kitchen cabinet with a double sink and faucet, when this picture was taken the only thing missing was the water! HA! Shortly after, I piped in cold water from our year round creek. Later, I installed a hot water heater heated by our wood cook stove. When this picture was taken, we were hauling water from the creek in 5 gal. buckets and heating it in a pot on the cook stove.
