This was my first ship and my first time out to sea. I was a 19 year old just out of electrical school, and was ready to see the world, and that I did. First off, it was fleet training in Provenience Road Island, then on to Brooklyn New York where we joined the ship at Brooklyn Navy yard, then the shakedown cruse. Then it was Gitmo and back to Norfolk Va. at pier 12. We made a Med cruse then back home with an honorable discharged.
