The Kemper Corporation's money management unit said yesterday that it would buy Dreman Value Management L.P. in a move analysts said was intended to improve the firm's image as a stock picker. Kemper Financial Services Inc. would purchase Dreman Value Management's $1.6 billion of assets under management, including four mutual funds, for about $35 million, according to those familiar with the transaction.

Kemper Financial Services, which has about $62 billion in assets, is the 11th-largest United States mutual fund company, although it has been losing assets while the mutual fund industry surged.
