In 1948 the United States Army issued smaller chevrons to their enlisted personnel, they were reduced from 3-1/2" to 2-inches in width. Combat soldiers wore blue chevrons on yellow while non-combat troops wore yellow on blue. Needless to say many did not like the whole arrangement and in 1951 during the Korean War of 1951-1953, they reverted to their earlier wider chevrons which did not differentiate between combat and non-combat enlisted ranks.
