When I worked in the woods, it was primarily for DeBriae.

Jerry was a serious right-wing zealot, and after I'd worked for him for about six months he told me he had only hired to prove to himself that "no damn hippie could work for Jerry DeBriae." Then he admitted he was mistaken. I worked for Jerry for about a year, and when I quit I gave him two weeks notice. He told me that in the woods, nobody gives notice. I told him I knew that and I didn't really give a shit about how other people acted and that I was going to work until he had hired someone to replace me or the two weeks had come and gone. On the last day of the two weeks Jerry said he had hired someone and they would start the next day. I told him that was good, because I wasn't going to be there the next fucking day. I think we surprised each other, and that was good.
