1 - Me standing in front of our carob tree and my tricycle. That's our car in the driveway. I loved climbing in that tree. 1954ish.

2 - Horace and me and, I believe, the dog I hit with the hammer. We’re in our driveway, standing in front of the garage door. It was a two car garage and Horace later had some stationary power woodworking tools in it. 10” table saw, 6” band saw, 4” joiner, 4” belt sander, and a drill press. They were Toro brand tools, and worked just fine for the time.

We had a skunk hide in the garage one time, and I think it took at least a couple of weeks to get it out.

3 - Me in my little league shirt with my glove and likely ball in hand. I think this was taken on our next door neighbor’s front lawn. I remember that clump of aspens a couple of doors down. That may have been the house my friend Warren Lu lived in.

4 - Me and my bicycle, probably in our backyard. Those are 45rpm record punch-outs from a local record pressing plant in the spokes. I remember the generator made that bike a real pain in the ass to ride at night. You had to peddle hard to generate much light. For a kid my age, that probably wouldn’t be okay today, and that’s a shame.

5 - Here I’m standing at the incinerator. It’s behind the cardboard boxes. That’s a leg of the swing set intersecting from the upper right corner. Looks like something had come packed in a bunch of excelsior. I wonder what it was.

We had a fireplace in that house, and I remember being fascinated that paper burning smelled SO different than wood, yet paper was made of wood. Weird shit that we remember (or at least me).

6 - Me standing by the swing set with a present on the two person swing thingy.

7 - Kneeling to water the pole beans in a cement planter. The stone edifice is the back side of a charcoal grill. It had plenty of “counter” space, as I recall, and perhaps lower cabinets on each end.

You can see the back of the house. The room with the windows you can see was my tiny, tiny bedroom. The half-bath was just outside my bedroom, which worked just fine.

8 - David on the swing set with croquet mallet, August, 1952. The incinerator is just out of camera shot to the right behind that bit of fence.

You can see the swing set had a bar to hang on. There’s another shot of me hanging upside down on that bar. I wonder if that was the beginnings of my interest in gymnastics.

9 - Me hanging upside down on my swing set's bar, August, 1952. I say mine because my sisters were too old by this time to be interested in this stuff. I like the way my toes are trying to wrap themselves around the bars. About this time, when I turned three, my sisters “discovered” I was really a pain in the ass, not the cute kid they had thought I was. It was my best Steven King impression before the guy was even born. HA!

To the left you can see one seat of the “sliding” two seat I don’t know what to call it. Yikes.

10 - In the driveway in the backyard with my bike. That's one of my sisters' bikes behind. They had identical bikes, naturally.

11 - Sitting on our lounge swing with a brownie camera. What the hell is that thing next to me???

12 - Another one of me and my bike with the 45rpm punch-outs in the spokes.

13 - Me and Zade. I remember those spring chairs. You can see the arm of the swinging chaise over his shoulder. This may be on Chesapeake rather than Virginia Rd.

14 - Me and Zade again, but apparently this time we’re having some fun! HA! I remember those spring chairs. This may be on Chesapeake rather than Virginia Rd.
