Morrow Point Lake lies quietly in this deep, rocky channel of the Black Canyon, an 11-mile long, jagged strip of water up to 450 feet deep. Since water discharged is periodically equalized by inflows from Blue Mesa Lake, Morrow Point Lake itself normally fluctuates very little. Along the walls of the canyon are the rocky pages of Earth's geologic history. in terms of man's experience, the antiquity of the canyon is staggering. These lower rocks, over 1 billion years old, were as a block about 60 million years ago. Cutting of the the canyon began a mere 2 million years ago. In contrast. Morrow Point Lake has been hera only since 1968.
